At the beginning of 2023, associate hiring in the US slowed amid economic uncertainty. However, towards the end of the year these worries faded, as firms looked to bring in associates to bolster their litigation offerings.
Tom Hanlon commented “it’s no secret that 2021 and 2022 were absolutely crazy, especially in transactional markets. We’ve never quite seen anything like it. It was obscene.”
Firms quickly made a U-turn and returned to growth mode, specifically on the litigation end. “2023 has certainly been the year of litigation,” he continued, and highlighted that this has particularly been seen in the IP litigation world.
