UK-Based Legal Recruiter Buchanan Law Opens First US Office in Miami, Following Clients

After legal recruiting specialist Buchanan Law originally planned to open its U.S. office in New York, the firm decided to change course and open in Miami instead.

Buchanan Law, which mostly services U.S. law firms, had been planning an office in the U.S. for years. But after COVID-19 hit, the firm stayed put in London, where servicing those U.S. clients consisted of late hours, said Thomas Hanlon, head of the firm’s U.S. practice. After eying New York before the pandemic, the firm decided that Miami was a better fit when it finally decided to move this year.

“Our elite law client bases are making the move here and more and more firms are opening up offices here,” Hanlon said. “That means that connecting with our clients is easier. It means that we can be here on the ground in what is a growing legal market and also a growing economic hub in the U.S. generally.”

Hanlon himself is moving over to Miami to head the new office while CEO James Baker is also relocating.
