Overview

A highly regarded international law firm is seeking a Real Estate Finance Associate to join its Los Angeles office. The group advises on sophisticated commercial real estate financing transactions and is known for handling complex, high-value matters for leading sponsors, lenders, and investors across the real estate market. 

The Real Estate Finance team works on a wide range of debt and structured finance transactions, offering associates exposure to complex capital structures, bespoke financing arrangements, and distressed scenarios within a collaborative and high-performing environment. 

About the Role

As a Real Estate Finance Associate, you will advise clients on a broad spectrum of commercial real estate debt transactions, including mortgage and mezzanine financings, preferred equity investments, and construction and bridge loans. You will work closely with experienced partners and senior associates, playing an active role in structuring, documenting, and executing transactions from inception through closing. 

This role is well suited for an associate with 3–7 years of experience at a top-tier law firm who is looking to deepen technical expertise in real estate finance while taking on increasing responsibility and client-facing exposure.

What You’ll Do

• Advise lenders, sponsors, and investors on commercial real estate financing transactions
• Draft, review, and negotiate financing documentation, including loan agreements, intercreditor agreements, and related ancillary documents
• Handle mortgage and mezzanine financings, preferred equity investments, and permanent and bridge loan originations
• Support construction loans, loan participations, syndications, loan sales, and co-lender arrangements
• Assist with workouts, restructurings, and distressed real estate matters
• Support transactions from structuring through signing and closing
• Collaborate with colleagues across restructuring, corporate, and finance teams on integrated matters
• Provide practical, commercially focused legal advice in complex deal environments 

About You

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school
• 3–7 years of substantive commercial real estate finance experience at a top-tier law firm
• Experience across mortgage and mezzanine financings, preferred equity, and complex lending structures
• Strong drafting, analytical, and deal management skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment
